Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar settled a lawsuit with Spartan Sports International, the Australian bat manufacturer, after the company allegedly failed to pay him $2 million in licensing agreements.

Tendulkar had filed a lawsuit in July last year, after the company failed to pay him pending royalties and endorsement fees since 2016, the year he signed up an exclusive sponsorship agreement to promote the manufacturer’s sporting goods. The lawsuit was filed in the Federal Circuit Court in Sydney.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, company director Les Galbraith apologised to Tendulkar. “Spartan sincerely apologises to Mr. Tendulkar for its failure to honour his sponsorship agreement and is grateful for Mr. Tendulkar’s patience in resolving this dispute.”

The judgment will now permanently restrain Spartan from using “Tendulkar’s name, image and likeness including to falsely suggest any endorsement by Sachin Tendulkar.”

The company also acknowledged in the statement that Tendulkar had no association with the company since September 17, 2018, when the 47-year-old decided to terminate the sponsorship agreement.
