Watch: Rashid Khan produced a ripping leg-break to outwit Mubasir Khan in Lahore Qalandars’ record 119-run PSL victory over Islamabad United on Thursday (March 9, 2023).
Lahore Qalandars, riding on Fakhar Zaman’s 115, had blitzed their way to 226 in their allotted 20 overs. Islamabad United were under pressure from the start, and further misery was piled on them by Rashid. After getting the better of Shadab Khan in the seventh over, the Afghanistan leg-spinner bamboozled Mubasir with a peach of a delivery. The ball pitched on a length on off stump and seemed to be drifting into the batter. Once it pitched, though, it snaked away and completely deceived the batter. Mubasir played down the wrong line and saw the ball crash into off stump.
Alan Wilkins, who was on commentary, lavished praise on Rashid, saying, “This man has mystique. All around the world, he plies his craft. Mubasir has played down the wrong line but you got to give credit to this magician of a bowler.” Rashid ended up bagging a four-wicket haul, which also included the scalps of Asif Ali and Faheem Ashraf. The leg-spinner’s heroics allowed Lahore Qalandars to win the game by 119 runs and consolidate their place at the top of the points table.
