Watch: Islamabad United put down two costly chances offered by Fakhar Zaman, with the Lahore Qalandars opener going on to make a century in the Pakistan Super League today (March 9).
Fakhar got off to a blistering start, racing to 71 off 29 balls inside the first 10 overs. He received an early life, dropped at slip early on by Asif Ali, with a chance squandered by Hassan Ali even easier.
Attempting to hit a third six in three balls, Fakhar swung hard straight down the ground. He made good connection but didn’t find much elevation, and the ball flew flat to Hassan.
The Pakistan fast bowler set himself, but somehow the ball burst through his hands, allowing Fakhar to bat on.
For a time, it seemed as if the missed chance might not prove costly, with Fakhar slowing down following the reprieve. He managed just nine runs off his next 12 balls before kicking on again, bringing up his century off 50 balls.
There was one more heart-in-mouth moment, with Fakhar overturning an lbw decision by the narrowest of margins with the ball pitching just outside leg. He ended up making 115 as Lahore Qalandars racked up 226-5.
