West Indies U19 captain Kimani Melius scores century in T10 cricket

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Kimani Melius, the West Indies Under-19 captain, has scored a century in the ongoing St Lucia T10 Blast, and nearly hit six sixes off his final over.

Melius, who led West Indies to a fifth-place finish in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup earlier this year, scored a blistering 34-ball 103* for Gros Islet Cannon Blasters against Vieux Fort North Raiders on Wednesday.

Melius’ assault against the Vieux Fort bowlers came to a head in the final over of the innings, when he launched five consecutive sixes against Shem Paul, but miscued the final delivery for a four and narrowly failed to join the elite club of batsmen to hit six sixes in an over.

His century helped Gros Islet post a daunting 166-0 in their 10 overs, with Vieux Fort falling 63 runs short of their target after restricted to 103-5 in their chase.

The clash was the fourth match of the St Lucia T10 Blast 2020, a 10-team tournament, which is one of the very few cricket tournaments happening the world over, given the Covid-19 repercussions.
