Gujarat Titans were rocked early, losing their first three wickets for 19 runs before David Miller and Shahrukh Khan resurrected the innings with a 61-run stand. But they lost two quick wickets yet again, with Miller departing for a 20-ball 30 in the 12th over and Shahrukh following him back to the pavilion six balls later.
While Miller was dismissed by Karn Sharma, Shahrukh’s was due to his undoing. Striker Rahul Tewatia played the delivery by Vijaykumar Vyshak towards the off-side and the two batters aimed for a quick run. However, Tewatia sent Shahrukh back as soon as he saw Kohli charge in to collect the ball.
Shahrukh was halfway down the crease at this point but instead of running down straight to safety, he kept his eyes on the ball. This also meant that he did not run back straight to the non-striker’s end, which gave Kohli enough time to get a direct throw in. Replays confirmed that Shahrukh was indeed short of his crease and was ruled out with the team score at 87-5.
Kohli celebrated with a flying kiss as Shahrukh walked back for 37 in 24 balls, top-scoring in Gujarat’s abysmal first innings where they managed to make 147.
