PSL 2024, the latest edition of Pakistan Super League, is set to begin on February 17: here’s all the latest news and updates from the Pakistan-based T20 tournament.

Several overseas players pull out

Lots of overseas players have withdrawn from PSL 2024 for various reasons, leading to last-minute headaches for franchises. Among those set to either partially or completely miss the tournament after having been initially named in the squads are Tabraiz Shamsi, Jamie Overton, Lungi Ngidi, Wanindu Hasaranga and James Vince.

Commentators and presenters announced

The PSL 2024 commentary panel will feature several significant names including Michael Clarke, who will ‘debut’ in the league as a commentator; Ian Bishop, who will return after 2017; and former PCB chair Ramiz Raja.

Quetta Gladiators get a new captain

Rossouw replaces Sarfaraz

Sarfaraz Ahmed won’t be the captain of Gladiators anymore, with Rilee Rossouw set to replace him at the franchise. Sarfaraz was their representative at the PSL trophy unveiling, but was officially replaced days ahead of the tournament. Rossouw is the most successful overseas batter in PSL history.

Reece Topley out of PSL

Workload managed for IPL, T20 World Cup

England seamer Reece Topley won’t be participating in the Pakistan Super League. He did not receive his NOC from ECB, with the understanding that his workload is being managed to participate in the IPL and the T20 World Cup.

PSL 2024 trophy unveiled

The trophy for the latest Pakistan Super League edition was unveiled at the Lahore Polo Club on February 13, with representatives from each team in attendance. Reportedly, Babar Azam arrived late for the event, and missed the actual unveiling.

According to Pakistan’s Dawn.com, stringent security measures have been put in place around the Gaddafi Stadium ahead of the opening fixture of PSL. The Nishtar Sports Complex next to the stadium has been closed for general traffic.

Umpires and match referees announced

Four ICC elite umpires

The list of umpires and match referees for the new PSL season have been announced. There are four umpires from the ICC’s elite panel: Richard Illingworth, Chris Gaffaney, Ahsan Raza, and Michael Gough.
