The Lucknow Super Giants were one of the two teams to make their IPL debut in 2022. They made it to the playoffs in both 2022 and 2023, but lost the Eliminator in both seasons to finish fourth.
Lucknow lost their captain KL Rahul to an injury halfway through the 2023 edition, and Krunal Pandya stepped in as captain. Rahul will be back to lead this time. They also got, among others, Devdutt Padikkal, Shamar Joseph, and Shivam Mavi. When Mark Wood opted out of the 2024 edition, they roped in Shamar Joseph.
Lucknow replaced Andy Flower as head coach with Justin Langer. Additionally, Gautam Gambhir, Lucknow mentor until 2023, has joined Kolkata Knight Riders as their mentor.

LSG in IPL 2024: Team news and injury updates
Lucknow replaced Mark Wood, who opted out of the 2024 edition, with young West Indian fast bowler Joseph.
Rahul missed the last four Test matches against England, but is likely to be back for the IPL. If he returns, there is a possibility of him playing in the middle order. Given his run with injuries, he may not keep wicket, and one of de Kock and Pooran may take up the role instead.

Lucknow’s strength lies in their all-rounders. Expect them to play a long string of them with hitters up to eight or even nine.
