Sanjay Manjrekar offers tips on cutting vegetables into bits ‘n’ pieces

by Wisden Staff 15 minute read

With India currently undergoing a three-week government-mandated lockdown to help limit the spread of the novel coronavirus, citizens have had to find their own way of keeping themselves entertained.

For former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar, the past few weeks have seen him experience upheaval on a personal as well as global front, with the commentator axed from the BCCI’s panel of experts ahead of the Indian Premier League.

Manjrekar seems to have responded well however, making magnanimous comments at the time, and now with a new hobby, combining his love of analysis with staying at home by giving tips on how best to chop vegetables – handy advice for those now cooking for themselves much more than they have before.

“It’s really about the technique, you know,” he tweeted, along with a video of him cutting some beans into bits ‘n’ pieces. Like a true pro, he even managed to get a plug for his book Imperfect into his tips.

“When you’re cutting vegetables, the knife has to be held like this and your index finger has to be on the edge of the handle and your arms have to be very close, not away from the body,” Manjrekar said. “To get perfect cutting of the vegetable, everything in life has got to be perfect, not imperfect.”
