India will play Sri Lanka in the women’s T20 cricket final of the Asian Games 2023 at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field, Hangzhou. Here is where you can watch the gold medal event live.
The four ICC Full Members – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh – all got direct entry to the quarter-finals of the 2022 (2023) Hangzhou Asian Games. Afghanistan did not send a team.
India made 173-2 in 15 overs against Malaysia. Chasing 177, Malaysia were 1-0 after two balls when rain stopped play for good, and India qualified by virtue of better seeding.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, restricted Thailand to 78-7 in 15 overs, and chased down the target in 10.5 overs with eight wickets in hand. Bangladesh and Pakistan qualified for the semi-finals without playing after their matches against Hong Kong and Indonesia were washed out.
India bowled out Bangladesh for 51 in the semi-final and raced to a win in 8.2 overs. In the other semi-final, Pakistan made 75-9, and Sri Lanka won in 16.3 overs.
Bangladesh eventually won bronze medal. They restricted Pakistan to 64-9 and won with five wickets and ten balls in hand.
This is the first time India are playing in the Asian Games. Having served a two-match ban, Harmanpreet Kaur will return to lead in the gold medal match. Sri Lanka, the only team to have played two full knockout matches, will be led by Chamari Athapaththu.
