IND vs AUS, 1st ODI: Team news

India have recalled R Ashwin to the ODI setup since his last outing in January 2022. Not named in India’s provisional 15-member World Cup squad, he has joined the fray along with Washington Sundar, who flew out as a cover for an injured Axar Patel for the Asia Cup final and has retained his spot.

KL Rahul will lead India in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav have also been rested. Shreyas Iyer, who missed most of the Asia Cup, is expected to play all the games.

Meanwhile, Australia have received a huge boost as their key players, after missing the South Africa tours due to injuries, are set to return. Having recovered from a wrist injury sustained during the Ashes, captain Pat Cummins is fit to play the series opener.  Steve Smith will also return after healing from a torn tendon in his left wrist.

At the same time, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell will be unavailable for selection in the first ODI.

Match prediction – Today’s India-Australia live match

It will be an even-steven affair. India impressed during their eighth Asia Cup title, and seem a sound lineup with all bases covered. Despite losing the ODI series 2-3 versus South Africa, Australia have resorted to an ultra-aggressive mode of batting in ODIs.

The visitors beat the hosts 2-1 during their last tour in the early part of 2023.
