Watch: Wahab Riaz embraced Martin Guptill after he dismissed the latter, even offering a kiss during Peshawar Zalmi’s PSL clash against Quetta Gladiators on Wednesday (March 7, 2023).

Peshawar Zalmi got off to a brilliant start in the game and on the back of Babar Azam’s splendid hundred, put up 240 in their allotted 20 overs. Quetta Gladiators, in response, got off to a flier themselves, with Jason Roy and Guptill taking a liking to the Peshawar Zalmi’s bowlers.

On the fifth ball of the third over, though, Wahab gave Peshawar Zalmi the breakthrough they were after. He bowled the ball back of a length on off stump. The ball held up in the surface a touch and seemed to bounce a tad extra. Guptill tried to swipe it away but could only top edge it tamely towards the bowler. Wahab called early and completed a fairly regulation catch.

As soon as he held onto the catch, though, he rushed towards Guptill, embraced him and offered him a kiss on the helmet. Guptill looked a little taken aback by the whole sequence as he walked back to the pavilion. Wahab, too, had a heart-in-mouth moment when the umpires were checking if he had overstepped. Thankfully for him, he had managed to keep his front foot just behind the line.
