Lucknow Super Giants started their IPL journey in 2022 and have been one of the most consistent teams in the last two seasons, qualifying for the playoffs in each of the two seasons they have featured in so far.
They had been coached by Zimbabwe legend Andy Flower and mentored by Gautam Gambhir. However, a shake-up in their coaching staff is imminent for the next season of the IPL as they have let go of Flower and have announced the appointment of former Australia opener and former head coach of the Australia Men’s national team, Justin Langer.
Speculations of Langer being in talks with the LSG franchise were ripe for the last few days. Earlier in the day, LSG made the announcement of the departure of Flower on social media, thanking him for his services.
LSG then made a cryptic post on Friday (July 14) evening on social media, giving a clear hint that Langer’s association with them was all but confirmed. The post included two pictures: one of singer Justin Timberlake on the left-hand side, and another of a langar, a community kitchen associated with Sikhs, on the right-hand side.

Langer will take over from Flower as the head coach of Lucknow. This will be Langer’s first coaching stint in the IPL. He does, however, have a glittering CV as a coach in T20 cricket, having led Perth Scorchers to three Big Bash League titles, and the Australian Men’s team to their only T20 World Cup victory in 2021.
Lucknow will be hoping that Langer can take over from Flower and build on the early success that the franchise has achieved so far in the IPL and take it one step forward by getting their hands on the coveted trophy in the coming seasons.
