Punjab, who need to win their last two games of IPL 2023 to stand a chance of qualifying, were on the back foot early on after the DC openers, Warner and Prithvi Shaw, raced to 94 in the first ten overs. Their stand was finally broken by Sam Curran when he dismissed Delhi skipper Warner with a slower delivery.
The opener swung across the line, but only managed a top edge to mid-off. Dhawan, who was fielding at the covers, ran to his left and timed his jump to perfection before latching onto a stunning one-handed catch.
Dhawan’s trademark ‘thigh-slap’ celebration followed as he sent back Warner for a 31-ball 46.
His opening partner Shaw went on to reach his first fifty of the season, making 54 in 38 deliveries.
