Watch: Ruturaj Gaikwad hit three sixes in the fifth over of the Chennai Super Kings over against Lucknow Super Giants today (April 3), including one that landed on the Tata Tiago EV presentation car, denting the vehicle, and prompting a hefty donation to charity in the process.

Gaikwad, who scored 92 off 50 deliveries in the first game of the 2023 IPL against Gujarat Titans on Friday, continued his stellar form in the second clash, reaching his fifty in only 25 deliveries at the Chepauk. The youngster started aggressively, scoring 20 in his first 12 balls, and then took six more deliveries for his next 20 runs, smoking Krishnappa Gowtham for three sixes and a double in the fifth over of the innings.

Gaikwad first faced a dot before he whacked a shorter delivery straight down the ground for his maiden six of the innings. Another dot followed, but Gaikwad bounced back strongly yet again as he hit another six over long-off. A stellar fielding effort by Deepak Hooda on the next ball prevented Chennai from scoring a boundary, but Gaikwad took the aerial route on the last ball of the over, as he danced down the track over wide long-off, to score 20 runs off the over.

The last six also went on to hit the Tata Tiago EV car that was on display outside the boundary rope, ensuring that Tata Motors, the car manufacturer, had to donate INR 500,000 to charity. According to a press report, every time a batter hits the car, “Tata Motors will donate Rs 5,00,000 towards enhancing the biodiversity of Coffee Plantations in Karnataka by planting saplings.”

Gaikwad was eventually dismissed for 57 in 31 deliveries, as Chennai lost their first wicket for 110 in 9.1 overs.
