Watch: IPL debutant Dhruv Jurel smoked a stunning six off Arshdeep Singh on the third ball of the 19th over of the 2023 IPL clash between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings.

Jurel, with only three T20s under his belt, was used as an Impact Player on Wednesday, and walked out to bat at 124-6 when the Rajasthan Royals needed 74 in six overs. Shimron Hetmyer, on 31 off 15 at that point, had hit Sam Curran for two sixes and a four in the 18th over, leaving Jurel on strike for the penultimate over, sent down by Arshdeep Singh.

Arshdeep began with a pinpoint yorker that Jurel only managed to hit back to him. The next delivery was a wide down the leg-side, and the re-bowled ball went for a one-bounce four through the off-side off. The third ball of the over ignited hopes of a comeback as Jurel stayed on the leg side of the slot ball and carved it up over extra cover for a huge six, leaving the commentators in awe.

“What an impact from the impact player,” quipped Ian Bishop. “Virat Kohli, eat your heart out,” added Chris Morris, referencing Kohli’s hit against Haris Rauf against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup last year.

Jurel followed it up with another boundary, but his efforts were not enough in the end as Punjab Kings won by five runs. He remained unbeaten on 32 in 15 deliveries, his highest T20 score. He hit three fours and two sixes in his knock as Rajasthan Royals succumbed to their first defeat of the season.
