IPL 2023 final, reserve day weather updates: What happens if rain washes out rescheduled CSK vs GT final?

IPL 2023 final – rain washed out the scheduled final, reserve day called into action
by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Rain lashed across Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 28, forcing the IPL 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans to be pushed to the reserve day – here’s what the weather prediction is for May 29, including rain forecast for the reserve day.

It was a dramatic twist to all the hype around the finale, possibly MS Dhoni’s final match. Scores of fans thronged the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to witness the clash between the home team and four-time champions, only for rain to play spoilsport.

The final will now be played on the reserve day – May 29 – with the expectation of a full 20-overs-a-side clash between the two sides. Fans were told to keep their physical tickets intact for re-entry the following day.

IPL 2023 final, CSK vs GT: Rain forecast for May 29

Here’s what the weather forecast says for the reserve day:

There is a low chance of precipitation for the reserve day (May 29), but there’s still a bit of rain forecast for evening time (6pm).

This is what the weather prediction for Ahmedabad says on BBC weather for May 29:

What happens if the reserve day gets rained out?

In the event that the reserve day also gets rained off, Gujarat Titans will be declared winners on account of being higher on the points table (they topped the league stage). This is based on last year’s IPL Playing Conditions.

Before that, there are a lot of scenarios. The cutoff for a full game is 9.35pm IST.

A five-overs-a-side game can begin by 12.06am IST.
