IPL 2021: CSK v RR preview

Chennai Super Kings have had a strong game against Punjab Kings before this fixture and might just be wondering if they can still make a solid impression in the season despite losing their Chepauk fortress. The conditions at Wankhede might just suit their new outfit and CSK did seem to find a way to master that in their last game.

Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, have team balance and injury concerns to attend to. Their plan to tackle teams with left-arm pace upfront has paid off so far and CSK might just be welcomed with the same tactic. Their batting has relied on individual brilliance so far, but as a unit a better performance could do wonders for them going forward.

Team news

CSK: CSK might have swapped Lungi Ngidi in for Faf du Plessis had he not played a good hand previous game, but now that it has happened, Dwayne Bravo stares at an axe. Ngidi should complement the present CSK attack perfectly, at least until Jason Behrendorff becomes available. They might also move out Ruturaj Gaikwad for Robin Uthappa to get aggression at the top.

RR: Rajasthan were saved by Chris Morris last game, but their middle-order issues need attention. Shivam Dube might move out after two listless games with Mahipal Lomror likely to get in. The other option is playing Yashasvi Jaiswal or Anuj Rawat and pushing Samson one spot down.

Pitch and weather

The Wankhede surface has behaved differently in the last couple of games and we could see batting getting tougher at the venue. There’s help with the new ball and the wicket has remained tacky and two-paced. Temperatures are expected to remain in the early 30s and the dew at night could help the chasing side.
