David Warner calls time on his ODI career

David Warner announced his retirement from ODIs but mentioned the possibility of participating in the 2025 Champions Trophy if Australia need him. Earlier in May, he had revealed his decision to step aside from Test as well, with the New Year’s Test against Pakistan at the SCG about to be his final match. However, he is still available for T20Is and is expected to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup jointly hosted by the USA and the West Indies.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman left out of Melbourne Renegades after change in NOC conditions

Melbourne Renegades have removed their foreign recruit Mujeeb Ur Rahman from their squad after a “change to his N0-Objection Certificate (NOC) conditions” ahead of their BBL 2023/24 clash against Melbourne Stars.

The development came after Mujeeb, along with Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi, had been denied NOCs by Afghanistan as a punitive measure for their desire to forego central contract for 2024.

Ervine back in Zimbabwe squad, Williams out injured

Zimbabwe announced two 15-member squads for the ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka starting from January 6. Craig Ervine, who missed the home series against Ireland in December due to an injury, has returned to captain the ODI side, while Sikandar Raza will continue to lead the T20I team. However, veteran campaigner Sean Williams, recovering from a side injury, has missed out.

McDermott steers Hurricanes to victory over Thunder on return

Ben McDermott returned from a concussion after missing the last two BBL 2023/24 matches and scored an unbeaten 53 from 34 balls, helping his side Hobart Hurricanes trounce the Sydney Thunder by seven wickets. The victory was Hobart’s second this season from five games, lifting them from the bottom to the fifth spot on the points table

Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed returns to bowl in the nets ahead of SCG Test

Abrar Ahmed, who was ruled out of the first two Test in Australia due to a right-leg injury, returned to bowl in the nets for a considerable amount of time during Pakistan’s training session in Sydney ahead of the New Year’s Test on January 3. While his return to action gives the Pakistan camp a ray of hope, his participation in the final match of their red-ball tour is still not guaranteed.
