CSK were asked to bat by PBKS after Sam Curran won the toss. The visitors made 167-9 with Ravindra Jadeja’s 43 off 26 being the top score of the innings. Shivam Dube was dismissed for his second consecutive golden duck while MS Dhoni was out for a golden duck too, courtesy of a brilliant Harshal Patel slower yorker.
In response, CSK opened bowling with Mitchell Santner, who was playing his first game of the season. He gave two runs before Tushar Deshpande shared the new ball with him.
Deshpande’s first over was a delight to watch from a bowling point of view. After a wide down the leg side, he got one to swing outside off that got Jonny Bairstow’s outside edge and flew between the wicketkeeper and short third for four.
The next ball took Bairstow’s inside edge as it came back in, before Deshpande was able to successfully breach his defence and get through to his stumps. A back of length ball that jagged back in sharply proved too good for Bairstow as he had to make the long walk back.
Deshpande wasn’t done yet. After bowling two dot balls to the new batter Rilee Rossouw, he got one through his defences in similar manner to Bairstow’s dismissal as PBKS were pegged back to 9-2 after two overs.
He then beat the bat on several more occasions in his second over, before eventually going for plenty (16) in his third. After three overs, his figures read 28-2. He currently has 12 wickets for CSK this season.
