Punjab Kings (eight points from 10 matches) are eighth on the points table, Chennai Super Kings (10 from 10) fifth, Lucknow Super Giants third (12 from 10), and Kolkata Knight Riders second (14 from 10). All of them are playoffs contenders.

Punjab will still be without their regular captain Shikhar Dhawan, and Sam Curran will continue to lead them. Dharamshala often assists seam bowling, which may prompt them to pick the extra fast bowler.

CSK will be without Mustafizur Rahman. There is a chance of them starting with three overseas cricketers and use one of Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, and Maheesh Theekshana as the Impact Player, depending on the conditions as well as whether they bat or field first.
