Suryakumar made his much-awaited return to the Mumbai Indians line up today after missing the first three games due to injury. He replaced Naman Dhir in the XI and came out to bat at No.3 at the fall of Rohit Sharma’s wicket.
MI had got off to a good start, with the former captain scoring a 27-ball 49 before falling to Axar Patel on the last ball of the seventh over. Suryakumar faced his first ball in the next over, bowled by Anrich Nortje.
Coming back from a long break, he looked rusty as he was stuck on the boot by a quick yorker on the first ball. The very next ball, he tried to chip a leg stump half volley over the mid-on fielder, but only managed to toe-end it into his hands, falling for a second-ball duck.
MI’s innings lost a bit of momentum after the powerplay as they slipped from 80-0 in 6.5 overs to 120-3 in 12 overs, but Romario Shepherd blasted a 10-ball 39 not out, including 32 in the last over, to power them to 234-5. At the time of writing, Delhi were 7-0 after the first over.
