Batting first, KKR put up a big score of 235. Sunil Narine shone with another blistering innings of 81 off 39 balls, his fourth 70-plus score of the season. Contributions from almost everyone who batted took KKR to the first-ever 200-plus team total at this venue.
In the run-chase, Marcus Stoinis came out to bat at No.3 after Arshin Kulkarni was dismissed thanks to a brilliant running catch by Ramandeep Singh on the last ball of the second over. Stoinis, in great form, particularly while chasing, slashed a Vaibhav Arora short ball over deep third for a six. It was the very first ball he faced, but that didn’t hold him back.

While there were no fielders on the deep-third boundary, there was a ball kid stationed beyond it. He ran a few paces to his right and took a neat catch, much to everyone’s applause at the stadium.
The ball kid seemed overjoyed at the catch and the adulation he was getting, which only went to the next level when the big screen showed Jonty Rhodes making a gesture of signing him up from the LSG dugout.
Rhodes has been in the limelight this season for his active involvement in the game as he has been seen running around the boundary lines and encouraging his fielders, particularly after misfields or dropped catches. This was another memorable moment that would be added to the highlights reel of Rhodes’ IPL 2024 campaign as a coach.
