The women’s T20 World Cup 2023 gets underway in early February in South Africa – here’s a full list of Women’s T20 World Cup past winners and players of the tournament.

Australia go into this edition of the tournament as favourites, having won the trophy five times before including when the competition was last held in 2020. The only other two past winners are England and the West Indies.

The 2023 tournament is the first time South Africa will host a women’s T20 World Cup, with the final being held at Newlands on February 26.

2009 Women’s T20 World Cup

Winners: England

The first ever edition of the tournament was held in England with the hosts going on to claim the trophy. New Zealand were the runners up, they were bowled out for 85 in the final with Katherine Brunt-Sciver’s opening spell of 3-6 earning her the Player of the Match award.

2010 Women’s T20 World Cup

Winners: Australia

Australia claimed the first of their tournament wins in the second edition of the tournament, held in the West Indies. New Zealand again finished as runners up in a tense final which went down to the last ball.

2012 Women’s T20 World Cup

Winners: Australia

The first tournament which was held simultaneously to the men’s edition, Australia once again won a tight final – this time against England – which came down to the last ball.

2014 Women’s T20 World Cup

Winners: Australia

Another England v Australia final in which Australia came out on top, this time by a more comfortable margin of six wickets. Ireland and Bangladesh featured for the first time in this edition of the tournament, Bangladesh as hosts.

2016 Women’s T20 World Cup

Winners: West Indies

For the fourth time running, Australia reached the final of the tournament. But this time they were overcome by the West Indies, on a memorable day where the West Indies also claimed the men’s title – with both finals held in the same venue on the same date.

2018 Women’s T20 World Cup

Winners: Australia

Australia regained their title in 2018. Once again they beat England in the final by a comfortable margin – eight wickets.

2020 Women’s T20 World Cup

Winners: Australia

This edition of the tournament will be remembered for its iconic final, held in a sell-out MCG just weeks before the global pandemic lockdown kicked in. Australia put on a clinical performance to clinch their fifth title. They beat India by 89 runs, having post 184-4 and bowled India out for 99.
