CAN vs IRE, AFG vs NZ & BAN vs SL: Today’s World Cup match team news
Canada news
Canada were in action on the opening day of the tournament, against co-hosts USA in Dallas. Aaron Jones’ pyrotechnics notwithstanding, they will have been disappointed with their bowling effort which saw them fail to defend 194. Ireland, however, are a team they may fancy their chances of causing an upset against.
Ireland news
Like Canada, Ireland have also lost their only match. They were shot out for 96 on a tricky New York wicket against India and did not bowl particularly while trying to defend it. Beat Canada, though, and they can start to dream of qualifying from the group.
Afghanistan news
Afghanistan took on T20 World Cup debutants Uganda in their first match and secured a thumping 125-run win. Their batting at the death may still be a concern as they scored 27-4 in the last five overs of the first innings. New Zealand are sure to be a far sterner test for them.
New Zealand news
After nearly a week of action, New Zealand will get their first crack at this T20 World Cup when they play Afghanistan in Guyana. Their recent form has been up and down, with impressive wins over Pakistan but a few hammerings against Australia. They will hope opener Devon Conway can find form quickly after a lengthy period out due to injury.
Bangladesh news
Bangladesh are in a bit of a rut at the moment, coming as they are off the back of a series loss to the USA. Despite that, their squad is replete with some big names. Shakib Al Hasan is set to be one of the key players yet again, with the likes of Mustafizur Rahman and Mahmudullah making up an experienced core.
Sri Lanka news
Sri Lanka had the misfortune of being the first team to bat on the now-infamous wicket at the Nassau County Stadium. They were bowled out for 77 by South Africa but put up a good fight in defending it, even though they lost eventually. Against Bangladesh in one of the most intense derbies of recent times, they will want a bit more to come from their top order.

CAN vs IRE, AFG vs NZ & BAN vs SL: Prediction for today’s T20 World Cup match
At New York, the Irish have the advantage of having played at this ground once already, and will be wary of what the deck has to offer. They could be hamstrung in case Harry Tector is unavailable, but will still back themselves to overcome a spirited Canadian side.
Afghanistan take on New Zealand in Guyana, where they thumped Uganda. This is one of the more important clashes in Group C as far as qualification is concerned, with three teams potentially in with a chance of making it. From New Zealand’s point of view, Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell will both be crucial if they are to effectively counter the Afghans’ high-quality spin attack. This could go either way, but New Zealand are perhaps slight favourites.
The final match on June 7 will see the latest installation of the ‘Naagin derby’ as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka go head to head. Despite their loss to South Africa earlier in the week, Sri Lanka will fancy their chances in this one given Bangladesh’s recent poor form. The Bangla Tigers will be missing pacer Shoriful Islam for this one; the seamers, Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana, and spinners, Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana, make Sri Lanka favourites.
