After being involved in a terrible mix-up in the first T20I in Mohali which resulted in him being run out for a two-ball duck, Rohit Sharma fell for a golden duck in the second game after being bowled while trying to slog Fazalhaq Farooqi in the first over.

Chasing 173, a new opening pair stepped out for India. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had missed the first match due to a sore groin, was fit and back in the place of Shubman Gill. Jaiswal took first strike and smashed the first ball of the innings for a boundary behind point.

The strike changed after a single on the fourth ball, bringing Rohit at the crease for the first time in the innings. He wasted no time as he stepped out and looked to hit a cross-batted hoick on the very first delivery. The ball, however, sneaked through and castled into his stumps, forcing him to walk back for a second consecutive duck in the series.

This was the 12th time Rohit was dismissed without scoring in this format, easily the most among Indians. Across the world, he is now joint-second on the list with Kevin Irakoze of Rawanda and Kevin O’Brien of Ireland.

Rohit’s wicket brought Virat Kohli to the crease, who, like Rohit, is also playing T20Is for the first time since the 2022 T20 World Cup.
