The 2023 ODI World Cup schedule has been finalised after several state associations and Full Member countries requesting tweaks. Here’s the latest news about all such reports and the current status of the World Cup 2023 schedule, including revised fixtures.

The official schedule for the 2023 World Cup which is scheduled to start on October 5, was released on June 27, a little more than three months before the start of the event. To compare, the schedule for the 2019 ODI World Cup held in England was released more than a year before the start of the tournament.

Yet, despite such an unprecedented delay in the release of the fixtures list, the schedule might undergo more tweaks with less than two months left until the first ball isis bowled in the 2023 World Cup. Here’s a timeline of events and reports associated with potential changes in the schedule that have occurred since the release of the official schedule in June.

# BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said after a meeting on July 27 that there might be some changes to the World Cup schedule as several Full Member countries had written asking for a few of their fixtures to be revised. “Two or three boards have written in, asking to change based on the logistical challenges. There are some matches where there is only a two-day gap, so it will be difficult to play and then travel next day,” said Shah.

# Shah had neither named the boards that had requested the change nor the matches that would potentially be affected. However, there were reports that among the matches to be rescheduled was the marquee India-Pakistan match scheduled on October 15 in Ahmedabad.

# There had been reports that local police in Ahmedabad had raised concerns over providing security on October 15 since it marks the first day of the Hindu festival Navratri. Jay Shah, however, had denied such reports, saying, “If security was an issue then why would the match go there? [October] 14-15 is not the problem.”

# According to a report by ESPNCricinfo on August 2, the ICC wrote to the Pakistan Cricket Board about the proposed changes in Pakistan’s fixtures and the PCB accepted them. They include moving the India-Pakistan game to October 14 in Ahmedabad, as well as the changing the date of of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka game in Hyderabad from October 12 to October 10.

# While there has been no official confirmation yet, if the India-Pakistan game is rescheduled to October 14, it might prompt another game to be shifted since October 14 is already a double-header day according to the original schedule. Bangladesh and New Zealand are scheduled to face-off in Chennai while England and Afghanistan are scheduled for a game in Delhi on October 14. One of those games will have to be moved if the India-Pakistan game is to be slotted in on the same day.

# According to the latest reports on August 5, the Cricket Association of Bengal has requested the ICC to reschedule the November 12 clash between Pakistan and England in Kolkata. The local police in Kolkata have raised concerns over being able to provide security as the city will celebrate Kali Puja, one of the biggest festivals in West Bengal after Durga Puja, on the day. CAB President Snehasish Ganguly, however, has denied any official request for a change in schedule so far.
