Royal Challengers Bangalore finished in fourth position in last year’s season, just outside of the knockout positions. Their first match this year will be against UP Warriorz on February 24.

RCB chose to release seven players from their squad ahead of this year’s mini-auction, including three overseas players. Dané Van Niekerk, Erin Burns, and Megan Schutt were all released, as well as Poonam Khemnar, Preeti Bose, Sahana Pawar, Komal Zanzad.

The franchise’s most expensive buy in the auction was left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht, who they picked up for 60 lakh. Also boosting their spin options will be Australia leg-spinner Georgia Wareham, who they bought for 40 lakh in this year’s auction. Wareham played for Gujarat Giants in last year’s edition, but only featured in two matches. In a spin-heavy auction strategy, RCB also picked up Sophie Molineux for 30 lakh.

Another marquee name joining the franchise this year will be England fast-bowler Kate Cross, bought for 30 lakh in the auction. Shubha Satheesh, Sabbineni Meghana and Simran Bahadur are also new faced joining the side this year.

Heather Knight was due to return for the side after featuring last year, but pulled out of the tournament due to a scheduling clash with England’s tour of New Zealand. Nadine de Klerk was named as her replacement.
