New Zealand are touring the United Arab Emirates for a three-match T20I series starting today (August 17). This will mark the very first occasion of New Zealand playing the UAE in a bilateral series.

Prior to this, the two teams have faced each other only once in international cricket, during the 1996 ODI World Cup. New Zealand won that game in Faisalabad by 109 runs  They have never faced each other in the T20 format.

New Zealand will be led by Tim Southee. They have picked a relatively inexperienced squad with the first-choice players either rested or allowed to play in the Hundred before they join the squad for the England series. This series will also mark the return of fast bowler Kyle Jamieson to the New Zealand team after a long injury layoff. UAE, meanwhile, will be led by Muhammad Waseem. This will be his first stint with captaincy in T20Is.

All three matches will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, on August 17, 19, and 20. New Zealand have a poor record at the venue, having won only three out of the nine T20Is they have played here. UAE, on the other hand, have an even worse record and are yet to win their first match at this venue despite playing six T20Is.
