Brothers Sarfaraz and Musheer Khan made hundreds for different India representative teams on the same day in different continents.

Sarfaraz Khan made a 160-ball 161 with 18 and five sixes, his maiden first-class hundred for India A, in the unofficial second ‘Test’ of the three-match series against England Lions at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With Devdutt Padikkal also making 105, India A responded to England Lions’ 152 with 489 even as Matthew Potts picked up 6-125.

After the innings, Sarfaraz’s first-class average shot up to 69.86, marginally behind George Headley’s 69.87, the third name on the all-time batting averages chart with a 50-innings cut-off. Perhaps more importantly, it brought him back into contention for a spot in the India Test squad.

Towards the end of Sarfaraz’s innings, younger brother Musheer walked out to bat at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein as India lost their first wicket against Ireland in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup.

Coming out at 32-1 in the ninth over, Musheer took 66 balls for his first fifty but only 34 balls for his second, though Sarfaraz’s hundred was the quicker of the two by an 11-ball margin.

Sarfaraz also made the bigger of the two centuries, though his innings came in a first-class match. Musheer hit 118 in 106 balls with nine fours and four sixes, adding 156 for the third wicket with captain Uday Saharan (75) as India A amassed 301-7.

Sarfaraz himself had featured in the 2014 and 2016 editions of the Under-19 World Cup. He made 566 runs at 70.75 with a strike rate of 93. Against Pakistan in 2014, he famously made 74, held four catches, and even took a wicket.

Musheer made his Ranji Trophy debut at 17, and hit the headlines after his 47-ball 127 in November 2023. His two innings in the 2024 U19 World Cup have fetched him 121 runs so far.

Brothers scoring hundreds on the same day, while not very common, is not unheard of. However, reaching the milestone on the same day in different continents is a rare family feat.
