Watch: The final ball of Chepauk Super Gillies innings in the Tamil Nadu Premier League was one of the most expensive in the history of cricket: Abhishek Tanwar of the Salem Spartans conceded 18 while attempting to deliver a legal ball.

Up until the final over of his spell, Tanwar had bowled well. He had taken the wicket of Baba Aparajith in his third over and conceded 18 runs off his three.

However, with just one ball left in the innings, the wheels completely came off for him.

The first four balls in the over went mainly to plan, two singles, a dot and a four coming off them. He first overstepped while bowling his fifth delivery, but was able to pull his foot back on the re-bowl to limit the damage.

Sending down another yorker, Tanwar overstepped again. One more run added to the total for the no ball, and none off the bat. Having completely lost his rhythm at this point, his re-bowl was a full toss that R Sanjay Yadav sent straight over the mid-wicket boundary for six.

Before raising his arms for the six, the umpire signalled that Tanwar had overstepped once more. Seven were added to the total.

On the third attempt to bowl the final ball of the innings, Tanwar again attempted a yorker but dragged it down and the batters came through for two.

Once more the umpire raised his arm to signal his foot had been in front of the line. Now having conceded nine in attempts at bowling the final ball, Tanwar finally managed to bowl a legal delivery, only to be pumped for another six by Yadav.

That took the final run tally for the last ball up to 18. Luckily for Tanwar, it was not the most expensive delivery in the history of recorded cricket. That honour stays with Clint McKay, who conceded 20 runs off a single ball during the 2012/13 BBL.
