Watch: David Warner mistakenly walked towards Oman’s change room instead of Australia’s following his dismissal in the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados.
David Warner, playing in his last international tournament, made 56 in 51 balls against Oman on a slow, sluggish wicket at Kensington Oval. Opening the batting with Travis Head, Warner steadied the ship along with Marcus Stoinis after Australia fell to 50-3 following a tight spell of bowling.
Warner eventually fell to Kaleemullah in the 19th over, his innings containing six fours and a six. Instead of heading back to Australia’s dressing room, Warner walked towards the other side and was headed into Oman’s pavilion before he realised his error.
The incident led to plenty of laughter in the commentary box. “This is a rookie mistake, and Warner is not a rookie,” said Mpumelelo Mbangwa.
Australia, playing their first game of the competition, made 164-5 in 20 overs as Stoinis hit an unbeaten 67 in 36 balls. They then restricted Oman to 125-9. Stoinis starred again, this time with 3-19 in three overs.
