South Africa have announced a full-strength squad for the T20I series against India beginning June 9, 2022 – here’s the complete team list, along with replacement news and injury updates for the visitors ahead of the IND vs SA series.
The squad will be led by Temba Bavuma, with experienced players such as Quinton de Kock, David Miller, and Aiden Markram rallying around him in the batting group. The bowling attack is heavily reliant on seam, bolstered by the return of Anrich Nortje, who hasn’t featured for South Africa since the 2021 T20 World Cup.
The other members of the fast-bowling line-up will be young Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi as well as Dwaine Pretorius, and the experienced duo of Kagiso Rabada and Wayne Parnell. Jansen, Pretorius, Rabada and Nortje are all featuring in IPL 2022.
Faf du Plessis continues to be a notable absence, having retired from Test cricket last year, but continuing to play T20 leagues around the globe. Young Tristan Stubbs, currently with Mumbai Indians, earned his maiden call-up; the wicketkeeper-batter had an impressive season for the Warriors in South Africa’s domestic T20 competition, striking at 183.12.
Dewald Brevis, another talented youngster under the selectors’ radar, wasn’t considered, despite a breakout U19 World Cup earlier this year, and an impressive showing for Mumbai Indians in his maiden IPL season.
India are yet to announce their squad for the series, although there are reports stating that some of their first-choice players would not be considered, with a new-look line-up likely to be announced.
The series will begin on June 9 with the first T20I in Delhi, and will conclude on June 19, with the final game in Bengaluru.
