The auction for the inaugural edition of SA20, Cricket South Africa’s new Twenty20 league, will be held on September 22 – here are the SAT20 2022 auction schedule, players list, rules, start time, and further details.

South Africa’s new city-based Twenty20 league will get underway in early 2023. Ahead of that, the six franchises will pick cricketers at an auction, modelled on the Indian Premier League (six of whose teams own the SAT20 teams), on September 19, 2022.

Ahead of the auction, the six teams have already signed up 23 cricketers out of a pool of 30. The auction has 533 other cricketers listed, of whom over 300 will go under the hammer. Here are the details.

SA20 2022/23 auction: The teams

There will be six teams in SA20 2022/23 – Durban’s Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape – based out of Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Paarl, Pretoria, and Gqeberha, in that order. As is evident from the names, these teams are owned by, respectively, the current owners of Lucknow Super Giants, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Players already signed up

As mentioned above, the six SA20 2022/23 franchises have, between them, signed up 23 cricketers. SA20 2022/23 auction: Squad sizes and purses

Every team has a total purse of USD 2 million, and can sign up at most ten South Africans and seven overseas cricketers. However, they have used up parts of both caps in the SA20 2022/23 auction.

For every match, they have to pick a minimum of seven South African cricketers.
