Watch: Mohammad Haris produced a stunning shot off Matt Henry that flew over the deep point fence for six during Pakistan’s fourth ODI against New Zealand at Karachi on Saturday (May 5, 2023).
Pakistan, riding on Babar Azam’s splendid hundred, had gotten themselves up to 296-6 after 48 overs. Henry was tasked with bowling the penultimate over and he had Haris in his sights. The first ball was hacked towards deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs. On the second ball, though, Haris produced a moment of utter brilliance.
Henry, bowling with a long off-side boundary, dug the ball in short. Haris opened up his stance, got his hands through the ball and crunched it over the sweeper at deep cover. The Kiwi bowler could only look in disbelief. Former Australia women’s cricketer Lisa Sthalekar, who was on commentary, exclaimed, “This is some shot – yeah, why not admire it”.
Haris and Shaheen Shah Afridi’s cameo helped Pakistan put up 334 on the board. In the end, that proved to be too much for New Zealand as they were bowled out for 232. Pakistan now lead the five-match series 4-0 and will have a chance on Sunday (May 7, 2023) to complete a whitewash. The final ODI will be held in Karachi as well.
