Watch: Shaheen Afridi smashed three sixes and a four in the space of five deliveries in the last over of Pakistan’s innings in the fourth ODI against New Zealand today (May 3) to help his team to a formidable target.
Walking out to bat at No.8 with the scorecard reading 296-6, Shaheen ensured Pakistan reached 334, with four boundaries in the last over, sent down by Blair Tickner. Shaheen first took a single on the last ball of the 49th over and was on strike for the last six deliveries. He started off with a dot, before going into attack mode, hitting the second ball straight down the ground for a huge six.
The fast bowler went down the ground on the next ball, smashing a fuller-length delivery towards mid-off for a boundary. He then sent the ball over long-on for another six and ended the innings on a high as he thumped a delivery on the outside-off over deep mid-wicket for the third maximum of the over, to take his team’s total to 334-6, with 22 runs coming in the 50th. Shaheen was unbeaten on 23 off seven balls.
The 23-year-old seems to be continuing his batting form from the 2023 Pakistan Super League, where he ended with 133 runs in 12 matches, scoring his runs with a strike rate of 168.35.
