Just a few days after clinching the T20I series against England, South Africa will take on Ireland, hoping to fine tune their team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Proteas have been in sparkling form lately, having lost only three matches since the culmination of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup. During that sequence, they’ve drawn a five-game T20I series in India, and have gotten the better of England.

David Miller will lead South Africa with Temba Bavuma having not recovered from his elbow injury. Kagiso Rabada has also been ruled out of the series due to an ankle injury, meaning a few spots are up for grabs. Reeza Hendricks and Rilee Rossouw did their chances no harm with splendid showings against England. Tristan Stubbs, too, showed that he belongs to this level. So, the Proteas have a fair bit going in their favour.

Ireland, on the other hand, have come close to challenging the likes of India and New Zealand on a couple of occasions. However, a T20I victory against top-quality opposition has remained elusive this summer. Things won’t get easier against South Africa, considering they are close to full strength and are firing on all cylinders. However, Ireland can call upon match-winners of Andy Balbirnie, Harry Tector and Paul Stirling’s ilk, meaning they can cause a flutter.
