Watch: Liam Livingstone threatened to pull off a famous chase for Punjab Kings on Wednesday as he struck 17 off the final over of their clash with Delhi Capitals, but could not get his side over the line as they fell 15 runs short.

Punjab needed 33 in the last over, bowled by Ishant Sharma. On strike was Livingstone, who finished with 94 off 48 balls.

After missing a well-placed wide yorker on the first ball, he hit a low full toss over long-on for six from the second. Sharma then missed his yorker again and was dispatched for four through cover point, leaving the Kings with a seemingly impossible 23 to win off of three balls.

There was little but the net run rate to play for at this stage, but things took a turn when the next ball slipped out of Ishant’s hand. The waist-high full toss was promptly dispatched for another six, and called a no ball.

Delhi protested and reviewed the decision, but DRS upheld the decision. Punjab now had to score 16 in three balls, and the next ball was a free hit.

Livingstone missed the following ball to end hopes of a chase. Eyeing a hundred, he then opted not to run after hitting the penultimate ball to covers, before holing out to long-off for 94.

However, the game had been decided by another final over. Rilee Rossouw had taken 23 in the last over, bowled by Harpreet Brar, to take Delhi Capitals past 200 for the first time in the season. They finished on 213-2.

Livingstone has enjoyed an impressive IPL despite failing to get his side over the line on Wednesday. His 270 runs have come at a strike rate of 171.
