Rain curtailed most of the action when New Zealand hosted India in November last year. New Zealand now travel to India after having played a series in Pakistan. Both sides go into the series off the back of wins, New Zealand having clinched a tight ODI series against Pakistan 2-1 and India having claimed victories against Sri Lanka. The visitors go into the series ranked number one in the world having won seven out of their last eight bilateral series.
India go into the series still missing Jasprit Bumrah, who has been suffering with a back injury for several months. KL Rahul will also sit out the ODIs with uncapped wicketkeeper KS Bharat filling a place in the squad. Shreyas Iyer was later ruled out due to a back injury, with Rajat Patidar replacing him. Shardul Thakur is also part of the India squad, while Arshdeep Singh misses out. New Zealand have injury problems of their own, with Adam Milne and Matt Henry both ruled out of the series. Kane Williamson and Tim Southee will be rested for the series after their playing in both the Test and ODI series in Pakistan. Tom Latham will step in as captain against India.
