India-Sri Lanka ratings
by Divy Tripathi 3 minute read

India continued their splendid run at home by clean sweeping Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series between the two nations. Here’s how the India players fared across the series:

Rohit Sharma: 5/10

50 runs @ 16.66, HS 44, S/R 116.27

While he was impressive on the captaincy front, the India skipper couldn’t get going with the bat. After a solid 44 in Lucknow, Sharma only added six runs from his next two outings.

Ishan Kishan: 7/10

105 runs @ 52.5, HS 89, S/R 147.88

The Mumbai Indians opener made a brilliant comeback after uninspiring returns against West Indies in the previous series. His 56-ball 89 at Lucknow effectively took the game out of Sri Lanka’s reach in the first T20I.

Shreyas Iyer: 9.5/10

204 runs without being dismissed, HS 74*, S/R 174.35

Shreyas Iyer didn’t put a foot wrong in this series. The Mumbai batter made the number three position his own against Sri Lanka, scoring the most runs in the series at a brilliant strike-rate.

Sanju Samson:  6/10

57 runs @ 28.5, HS 39, S/R 154.05

The Kerala wicketkeeper-batter impressed in patches without being able to fully cash in on his opportunity. He started slowly during a daunting chase in the second T20I before adding 22 runs in a single Lahiru Kumara over. He was eventually dismissed off the last ball of the over for a 25-ball 39.

Venkatesh Iyer: 5/10

Five runs @ 5, S/R 125, Two wickets @ 18, BBI 2-36

Venkatesh Iyer hardly got an opportunity against Sri Lanka.

He did manage to get some overs under his belt in the first T20I, and also picked up two wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja: 8.5/10

70 runs without being dismissed, S/R  189.18, Two wickets @ 32.15, Econ 8.12

Jadeja returned to the India side in style. While his bowling looked a bit loose on occasions, he cherished his role with the bat.  This was exemplified by his 18-ball 45 not out in the second game of the series to turn a potentially tricky run chase into what became a formality.

Deepak Hooda: 6/10

21 @ 21, S/R 140, Zero wickets, Econ 8

Hooda looked impressive in the only knock he played in the series, but was undone by a searing yorker from Kumara. He bowled without making an impact in the first game at Lucknow.

Harshal Patel: 4/10

Two wickets @ 45.5, BBI 1-29, Econ 9.1

The death overs specialist took two wickets across the series, but went for quite a few runs in the process.

Ravi Bishnoi: 6/10

One wicket @ 32, BBI 1-32, Econ 8

India’s star performer in the previous series, was played only in the final game and managed to take a wicket despite being taken for a few runs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 8/10

Three wickets @ 15, BBI 2-9, Econ 7.5

We got a glimpse of the Bhuvneshwar of the old in the first match of the series, where he was lethal with the new ball, getting the wickets of Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara within the first three overs of the game.

Yuzvendra Chahal: 8/10

Two wickets @ 19, BBI 1-11, Econ 5.42

Yuzvendra Chahal bamboozled the Sri Lanka batters at Lucknow, while he was his side’s second-best bowler in the second T20I at Dharamshala. He used his googly to keep his opponents under check in both of his appearances.

Kuldeep Yadav: 7/10

Zero wickets, BBI 0-22, Econ 5.5

Wicketless but frugal in his sole outing in the series.

Avesh Khan: 7/10

Two wickets @ 11.5, BBI 2-23, Econ 5.75

The Madhya Pradesh quick impressed everyone with his new-ball effort in the series finale, taking . He got the ball to zip around and troubled the batters.

Jasprit Bumrah- 7/10

One wicket @ 43, BBI 1-24, Econ 6.14

India’s premier fast bowler picked only one wicket in the series, but played a crucial role in the second T20I where he gave only 24 runs off his four overs. This kept Sri Lanka to a total of 183 on a good batting wicket.

Mohammad Siraj- 7/10

One wicket @ 22, BBI 1-22, Econ 5.5

Mohammad Siraj bowled with pace and accuracy in his new-ball spell and managed to pick a wicket. He was taken for a few runs when he returned to bowl towards the death.
