Watch: Yashasvi Jaiswal hit two sixes off debutant Tom Hartley’s first over in Test cricket during day one of the first IND vs ENG Test in Hyderabad today (January 25).

England were bowled out for 246 in the first innings on the first day of the five-match Test series in Hyderabad. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal came out to open for India with the sort of ultra-aggressive intent that was expected of England.

Jaiswal, playing just his fifth Test match, flicked the first ball of the innings by Mark Wood for four. He was on strike for the first ball of the second over as well, to be bowled by debutant left-arm spinner Hartley.

Hartley floated a loosener on the stumps to Jaiswal from round the wicket. The left-hander didn’t need any second invitation as he bent down on one knee and slogged it over mid-wicket for six. If getting hit for a six on the first ball he bowled in Test cricket wasn’t enough, more punishment was in store for Hartley as Jaiswal swept the fifth ball of the over for another six, taking 12 runs off his first over.

The pair continued with their attacking approach as India reached 39-0 after five overs. 28 of those had come off Jaiswal’s bat, from just 23 deliveries, while Rohit was the more sedate partner, batting on eight off six balls.
