Watch: In the Dharamshala Test match, Rohit Sharma hooked a 94mph bouncer from Mark Wood for six.

England got off to a decent start after Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat in the final Test of the five-match series, at Dharamshala. At 136-2, they seemed set for a big total. Zak Crawley fell for 79, but at 175-3, England seemed to have recovered.

Then, in a 13-ball period, England lost Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, and Stokes without the addition of a single run. England’s three most senior batters burnt their entire quota of three reviews.

England were bowled out for 218. Barring Crawley, four others went past 20, but none of them reached 30. Kuldeep Yadav led the rout with 5-72, while R Ashwin, playing in his 100th Test match, returned 4-51.

Ravindra (1-17) claimed the other wicket. This was the ninth time Indian spinners claimed all ten wickets in the first innings of a Test match.

Three balls into the Indian response, Yashasvi Jaiswal set a new Indian record for most runs in a Test series against England (656). James Anderson and Mark Wood began well, but Rohit Sharma counterattacked from the onset, opening his account with a back-foot cover-driven four off Wood.

The fourth ball of Wood’s second over was a bouncer that cane at 94mph. Rohit hooked, and the ball soared over the right of deep square-leg for six. Not content, he cut the next ball for four.
