Suryakumar Yadav hits six over fine leg

Watch: Suryakumar Yadav hit the first six of his innings of Jason Behrendorff in the opening T20I of the five-match series against Australia, chipping the ball over the fine leg boundary and into the stands.

India lost two wickets early chasing 209 in Visakhapatnam. Ruturaj Gaikwad was run out for nought before Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 21 off eight balls. That brought Yadav to the crease, captaining his first game for the national side.

He played out his first three balls for two runs before launching his innings off the final ball of Behrendorff’s second over. The left-arm quick pitched the ball on a length and a touch down the leg side. Yadav played the ball at hip height just before it reached him, and helped it high into the leg side behind square.

The ball sailed high into the air and well over the boundary rope, landing several rows back into the stand. The shot broke the shackles for Yadav and he went on to hit another six off Sean Abbott in the following over. He reached his half-century off 29 balls with another maximum off Abbott in the 14th over of the chase.

In partnership with Ishan Kishan, the pair put on 112 runs off 60 balls before Kishan was dismissed by Tanvir Sangha. Yadav was eventually dismissed for 80 off 47 deliveries, leaving his side in an excellent position to win the game, which they did despite a stuttering final two overs.
