India had a mixed outing at the Asia Cup, played in T20 International format this year. They beat Pakistan in a thriller in their first T20I and brushed aside Hong Kong easily to top Group A and qualify for the Super Fours. Once there, however, they lost consecutive T20 Internationals against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. They beat Afghanistan comprehensively to round off the tournament, but only after they had been knocked out. However, boosted by the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, they will aim to set a few things straight against Australia in the T20Is in Mohali, Nagpur, and Hyderabad.
Australia have not played a T20 International since their Sri Lanka tour in June. They won that series 2-1, their third consecutive series win – a run that followed their maiden title at the T20 World Cup last year. It has been an amazing turnaround, for Australia had come into that World Cup after having lost five consecutive T20I series.
Historically, India hold the upper hand, having won 13 T20Is to Australia’s nine. However, on Indian soil, Australia hold a 4-3 lead – including an ongoing four-match streak of wins.
