England’s hopes of regaining the Wisden Trophy were hit after a washout on day three of the second Test increased the prospects of a draw, and forecasts now suggest that further rain in Manchester during the third Test will dampen their chances further.

Forecasts on the BBC, AccuWeather and the Weather Channel predict that the Test – beginning on Friday – will be interrupted by inclement weather to varying degrees, but all three currently predict a reasonable chance of interruption. The BBC‘s forecast is the most optimistic; it predicts a 25-35 per cent of rain throughout Saturday and Sunday (days two and three of the Test) and a 10-26 per cent chance of rain on Friday, Monday and Tuesday (days one, four and five).

AccuWeather and the Weather Channel both paint a slightly bleaker picture, predicting more than a 50 per cent chance of rain for days two, three, four and five in Manchester. Should West Indies draw at least one of the final two Tests of the series, they will retain the Wisden Trophy for the first time since 1998. West Indies have not won a Test series in England since 1988.
