Watch: Ollie Pope was in sublime form in England’s Test against Ireland at Lord’s today (June 2), bringing up a maiden Test double-century.
He reached that notable landmark with a six before being stumped a delivery later, having broken Ian Botham’s record for the fastest double-century in England. But, from a technical point of view, it was arguably the shot that brought up 150 that stood out.
Pope has earned a reputation as an extremely watchable batter, with a textbook method straight from the coaching manual. That was on full display as he took a step down the pitch before creaming Mark Adair past the stumps at the non-striker’s end, with the ball racing to the straight boundary.
Pope was the headline in a day of record-breaking run-scoring for England as they established a dominant position over Ireland.
