Ishant Buttler

Watch: Ishant Sharma produced a peach to dismiss Jos Buttler at Lord’s, striking just before tea on day three by breaching the wicketkeeper-batsman’s defences during the second England-India Test.

Ishant, who did not feature in the first Test, had gone wicketless in his first 18 overs when he was pressed into action by Virat Kohli after the drinks break.

Earlier in the over, umpire Michael Gough had a quick chat with Ishant about running on the danger area of the pitch. Three balls later, he struck gold, bringing an end to a 54-run partnership by sending back Buttler.

The ball, pitched on good length, deviated slightly in after hitting the deck, and pierced through the gap between Buttler’s bat and front pad. Ishant let out a roar as the ball pegged back the off-stump, giving India their first wicket in 12.2 overs.

It’s on the same ground that Ishant took career-best figures of 7-74 during India’s 2014 tour, helping India achieve a memorable win at the Home of Cricket. Since then, India have won just one more Test in England, and are eyeing their first series win in England in 14 years.
