Watch: India hopeful Prabhsimran Singh intercepts ramp shot, completes astonishing full-stretch one-handed grab in Deodhar Trophy 2023
Watch: Wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh, playing for North Zone in the 2023 Deodhar Trophy, plucked an outstanding one-handed blinder to dismiss Ricky Bhui, during their match against South Zone in Puducherry.
The Deodhar Trophy, an inter-zone List A competition, began on July 24 at the Siechem Stadium, where Prabhsimran joined the North Zone team right after his return from Sri Lanka. He was part of the India A squad at the Emerging Teams Asia Cup, where they lost to Pakistan Shaheens in the final on July 22.
In the 39th over of South Zone’s innings, No.5 Bhui tried to squeeze out a ramp off Mayank Yadav, but the angled delivery caught him surprise. He only managed to glove it, the ball barely travelling with pace, but floating in the air towards the first slip region.
Prabhsimran leapt into action: flying to his right, he put in a full-stretched dive, and caught hold of the ball with one hand. What’s remarkable is that he moved to the left first, before correcting his course and leaping diagonally to follow the trajectory and complete the grab. Bhui departed for a 39-ball 31.
Powered by N Jagadeesan’s 72, and a 117-run opening stand between Mayank Agarwal and Rohan Kunnummal, South Zone managed 303-8 in 50 overs. Mayank Markande and Rishi Dhawan took two wickets apiece, with Prabhsimran taking one more catch, of Devdutt Padikkal.
Prabhsimran travelled to the Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, but did not get a game. Earlier this year, he smashed his maiden IPL century, becoming only the seventh uncapped player in the tournament’s history to do so.
