Watch: Marco Jansen loses his radar, sprays massive wides on both sides of the stumps | CWC 2023

Marco Jansen bowls two wides

Watch: Marco Jansen struggled to find his line in his first over against India, spraying wides on either sides of the stumps.

Rohit Sharma won the toss, opted to bat, and hit Lungi Ngidi for four, and retained the strike after the first over during India’s 2023 World Cup match against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Marco Jansen began at the other end, with a square leg slip – almost a leg gully – and a fielder almost pinned to the fence at deep fine leg.

Rohit edged Jansen’s first ball and picked up a single as the ball ran to deep third. The next ball was a wide down the leg side, and Shubman Gill let it go.

Jansen followed this with a wide ball outside leg that neither wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock nor the leg slip attempted to stop; it ran to the fence, and India got five wides.

To adjust his line, Jansen tried to attack the channel outside the off stump and ended up overcompensating: the line was too wide for the umpire yet again. Jansen conceded 17 in the over, and another 10 in his second, before he was taken off.

At the time of writing, India were 94-2 in 11 overs.
