Watch: Babar Azam gets strangled down the leg side to set big Pakistan chase back

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: Sri Lanka pacer Dilshan Madushanka strangled Babar Azam down the leg side to dismiss him in the Sri Lanka v Pakistan encounter at the CWC 2023 in Hyderabad.

Chasing 344, Pakistan haven’t had the best of starts as they lost two quick wickets in succession in the first ten overs. Left-arm seamer Madushanka drew the first blood for Sri Lanka after bouncing opener Imam-ul-Haq for a run-a-ball 12. Skipper Babar walked in at number three as Pakistan’s hopes rested on the ICC’s top-ranked ODI batter.

Babar started cautiously, hitting only ten runs from his first 14 deliveries. Pakistan hoped their captain was there for the long haul, but Madushanka, again, had other plans. At the 7.2 overs mark, Madhushanka fired it into Babar’s pads. It was an innocuous delivery delivery compared to the batter’s standards. Babar tried to glance the ball off his pads but got a faint edge. Gloveman Sadeera Samarawickrama safely pouched it, sending Babar packing for a low score. It was an unlucky dismissal for the Pakistan batter, Madushanka did not care as he took off in celebration.
