IND vs ENG, World Cup 2023 Match 29: Team news

India and England have played each other on eight occasions at the World Cup, with the former winning three and the latter four matches. The only tie came in 2011. During their face-off in the last edition, England prevailed by 31 runs thanks to a measured knock of 111(109) from Jonny Bairstow.

India look like a juggernaut, as they are the only unbeaten side in the tournament with five wins on the trot. Vice-captain Hardik Pandya will continue to miss out because of an ankle injury. Playing without Pandya, India managed to fold New Zealand for 273 runs as Mohammed Shami didn’t let the home side rue the absence of a sixth bowler with his 5-54.

Later, a Virat Kohli chasing masterclass of 95 (104) helped them to gun down the target. Going into this match, India could inject Ravichandran Ashwin in the starting XI to exploit the opposition’s visible weakness against spin.

Meanwhile, England desperately need some moments of brilliance to resurrect their stuttering campaign. Barring the win against Bangladesh in the second match, they have been ordinary in both departments. After losing to New Zealand in the curtain-raiser game, the cupholders lost their third, fourth and fifth games to Afghanistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka. In each of their last three outings, they were bowled out cheaply, raising a concern.

India vs England predicted XIs

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj.

England: Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (c) (wk), Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid.

Match prediction: Who will win today’s IND vs ENG match?

Given the wicket in Lucknow assists the slower bowlers, India’s spin department endangers England’s battered and bruised batting line-up. The hosts are the clear favourites to extend their unbeaten streak in the tournament.
